The value of clean water is never truly known until its absence is felt.

The villagers of Chak 324 JB in rural Pakistan must walk 5-7 kilometers every day to collect clean water. Pollution of their local water source is a critical issue they face constantly with dire consequences.

A small donation can change the world of 2,000 people by providing them with access to clean water in their village!

The Challenge:

Safely managed sustainable water and sanitation resources are urgently needed in this rural village in Pakistan due to the lack of available clean water sources, poor sanitation practices and an absence of hygiene education.

Problem #1: Water Access

The primary water source for drinking, bathing and washing clothes is an unnamed river which is also used by local animals such as cattle, oxen, buffalo, donkeys, horses, cats, dogs and camels.

Problem #2: Sanitation

Currently available water sources are polluted by biological contaminants from human and animal waste, garbage and agricultural inputs. There is no sewage system here, no piped water, electricity or toilets. Waterborne illnesses including Hepatitis A are a serious problem. There is a concerning lack of education regarding safely managing water sources and maintaining a hygienic environment.

Our Plan:

We are tackling this village’s water and sanitation issue in a plan that includes construction, education, health services and sustainability.

  • Build Electric & Hand-Pumped Wells

Our first goal is to install 10 wells around the community in order to give the villagers immediate access to clean groundwater sources. Some will be hand-pumped wells, while the others will be electric pumped wells, based on need and location in the village. We will also establish 2 public latrines and hand-washing stations in the community to start the process of eliminating open defecation and infiltration of human waste into the water source.
